I think mass surveillance is inevitable. In China's case, I can't think of any other meaningful way for the police to manage 1 million residents with only 300 police officers (321 to be exact, according to the linked article). In the U.S., isn't Ring already ushering in the age of mass, crowd-sourced surveillance, albeit only in certain neighborhood where everyone installs Ring and shares surveillance footage with neighbors and the police?
I suppose we will have to adapt to a surveillance world, where someone is always watching. I mean with the data gathering on social media, we actually already are in a surveillance world.
