Despite some questionable choices of background and font color, this is quite an engaging read. I think the first wave of itches are real and most likely do have physical causes. But the causes probably vary from case to case, and difficult to spot initially. Then come the second wave of itches. In addition to the initial cause, the second wave might also originate from scratching, the frustration that the cause couldn't be identified, and obsessive cleaning. It is also likely that the second wave would persist, even if the initial cause has disappeared.

Maybe it is also advisable to sample the skin directly. It seems to me that most of the analysis has been done on the fibers. What about the skin itself? Take a biopsy of the redness swelling from each patient of Morgellons, and let's see what's in it. Maybe that will shed more light on this condition.
